In a big relief to Mumbaikars, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) revealed that since November 12 not a single traveller arriving in the city from the at risk countries has tested positive for COVID-19.

In a big relief to Mumbaikars, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) revealed that since November 12 not a single traveller arriving in the city from the at risk countries has tested positive for COVID-19.

However, the BMC has collected their samples for another round of RT-PCR tests. The reports of the 100 city residents are expected tomorrow, December 1, said official.

Amid the fear of Omicron, the civic body has pulled up their socks to trace passengers and their high-risk contacts in the past 20 days. During the last one month, nearly 466 flyers, who are residents of Maharashtra, landing at Mumbai airport.

As per the latest guidelines, all passengers arriving from “countries of concern” are required to undergo RT-PCR tests at the airport. If they test positive, they will be quarantined institutionally and their samples will be sent to the genomic sequencing lab.

In the case of a COVID-positive Dombivli man who came from Omicron-hit South Africa, the samples have been sent for genome sequencing. The results of the report will come after about five days.

Owing to the emergence of the new variant, Omicron of COVID-19 globally, the BMC made a statement that schools for classes 1-7 in Mumbai will now reopen from December 15, instead of December 1.
