Now, polls to be held in colleges

Mumbai – Maharashtra Legislative Assembly on Thursday passed a law to allow elections in the Universities across the state. The elections for students’ councils were banned in the year 1994. These elections will now be held from the next academic year. With this, the representation of students will increase in different committees on the university level. President and secretary of University’s Students’ Council will get representation in Senates and other allied bodies. Former chief election commissioner J M Lyngdoh had submitted his report to the Supreme Court in this regard. Lyngdoh has recommended students’ elections in his report.
