Mumbai: Only 39 centres to administer COVID-19 vaccines today due to shortage of vials

Due to acute shortage of vaccines in the city, the BMC has restricted the COVID-19 vaccination drive to 39 centres only today, August 26. The centres will be operational from 9 am to 5 pm, and both doses of Covaxin and Covishield will be available in the city.

Of the total, Covaxin will be administered across only 16 centres, while the remaining 23 centres will be giving Covishield jabs.

Healthcare workers and frontline workers can only get their second jabs of the vaccine at any centres.

Moreover, the BMC has not mentioned any of the centres for drive-in facility for those above 45+ in Mumbai today as well.

The civic body has arranged special inoculation sessions for pregnant women. They can get the doses of Covisheild at Dr Babasaheb Memorial GH, MW Desai hospital, ESIS hospital, BDBA hospital, Maasaheb Meenatai Thackeray maternity home, and RCF.

Meanwhile, the students and professionals travelling abroad can get the vaccine at only Kasturba Hospital (Chinchpokli) today.

Besides, 50 per cent of Covaxin doses have been allocated for first dose candidates, the remaining 50 per cent is for those due for their second dose.

Beneficiaries have been asked to carry the certificate of their first dose of Covaxin at the time of getting their second shot.

Reportedly, Mumbai has a total of 315 civic and state-run vaccination centres.
