Keeping in mind the health security of the people of Dharavi, more than 300 residents of Dharavi have been registered under government welfare schemes through the People's Development Initiative of Dharavi Social Mission (DSM) and they have been given the benefit of medical insurance scheme. The total sum insured is INR 10 Crores. 197 people have registered for other government schemes.
Majority of people in Dharavi work in the unorganised sector. The government has many schemes for individuals in this sector. Welfare schemes like Ayushman Bharat, e-Shram Card and Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana provide financial and health security to unorganised sector workers. But due to lack of awareness and other reasons, many workers stay away from the benefits of these schemes.
Keeping this in mind, DSM has taken the initiative to bring the benefits of such schemes to the residents and workers of Dharavi. Under this initiative, more than 300 residents have been registered and covered under medical insurance.
The total sum insured is INR 10 crores. At the same time, 197 people have been registered for other schemes including e-Labor Card under the People Development Initiative and they have been given the benefits of the schemes. This is a relief for the families of Dharavi as the benefits of medical insurance and other schemes are available under this initiative.
