Maharashtra Forest Minister and Palghar guardian minister Ganesh Naik announced on Sunday that Palghar district is set to become the "fourth Mumbai." While speaking to the press, he said the district will play a major role in boosting India’s trade and economy.
Naik spoke about the Vadhvan Port project, which is being developed as India’s largest deep-water port. The project involves an investment of INR 76,220 crore.
According to Naik, this will make the district economically vibrant. He added that it will create many jobs for locals and young people. He said Palghar will become a leading district not just in Maharashtra but in the entire country.
A civic body meeting was held in the Vasai-Virar region on Friday, January 24, to address incomplete water delivery projects. Officials discussed the pending works under schemes such as Jal Jeevan Mission, Har Ghar Jal Yojana, and Amrut Yojana. The focus was on overcoming challenges and making sure of safe drinking water for the people of the district.
Shinde announced that a review meeting would be held on January 31. He said it would involve all concerned parties, including labour leaders and officials from the Jal Jeevan Mission departments. He assured that efforts are being made to make sure every home gets clean water.
Furthermore, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde also addressed protests regarding delays in the Jal Jeevan Mission. The initiative was launched in 2019 to provide clean tap water to every household, giving 55 litres per person daily. Protesters gathered in Thane and Palghar districts, demanding answers for delays and alleged irregularities in the project.
