Panvel residents will face a weekly water cut from Thursday, March 20. The Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC) made this decision due to low levels of water in Dehrang dam.

It will likely affect over three lakh people. The goal is to make sure that water lasts until June 15, which is the onset of monsoon season.

The water supply will be switched off in different areas on different days.

Here is the schedule for water cuts:

Monday: Market Yard, vegetable market, and Chaukani WTP areas

Tuesday: Patel Mohalla and Pioneer ESRs

Wednesday: HOC ESR areas

Thursday: Thana Naka ESR areas

Friday: Areas receiving water from Gol Water Treatment Plant (WTP) ESR.

Saturday: Gangaram Theatre areas

Sunday: No water cut.

The last major water outage in Panvel occurred on December 29, 2024. Panvel needs 32 million litres of water daily. PMC gets 5 million litres from MIDC and 15 million litres from Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran (MJP). The remaining 12 million litres come from the PMC-owned Appasaheb Vedak dam.

On Sundays and Mondays, MJP reduces its supply from the Patalganga River. Power failures also disrupt supply from MIDC and MJP. Due to this, PMC has been drawing more water from Dehrang Dam, causing depletion.

The Nhava Sheva water supply project is working on a new pipeline. The pipeline will replace the old corroded system and reduce leaks. By April, a new pump building at the Patalganga River will be ready. Once completed, this project will provide relief to Panvel. The PMC region will receive at least half of the new water supply.
