The Poisar river restoration project in the western suburbs is now likely to gain momentum. Necessary permissions have been obtained for the same. This project has been under discussion since 2019 and the contractor was appointed for this work in 2022.
To prevent pollution in the river, 10 sewage treatment plants will be set up in the river bed and the project will cost around INR 1200 crores, as per the report by Loksatta. For the work of this project, the No Objection Certificate has been received from the Marine Zone Authority, Kandal Forest and the Ministry of Environment and Forest after almost two years.
Under it, Dahisar and Walbhat, Poisar rivers in the western suburbs are going to be revived. A consultant was appointed in 2022 for the revival of these three rivers. According to this, sewage treatment plants will be set up at as many as 10 places to prevent pollution in Poisar river.
13 times extension
Tenders were invited for this work in July 2019. After extending the deadline for 13 times, the contractor was selected. It will take two years for this work. INR 1192 crores will be spent on Poisar river, and the cost including all taxes is INR 1482 crores.
