Two women have been arrested by the Khar Police for stealing valuables from a businesswoman’s home in the Khar area. The accused have been identified as Vaishali Nalawade and Deepa Yadav.

The complaint was filed by a 56-year-old businesswoman who lives in Khar. She had two cooks working for her, Vaishali and Savitri. She wanted to hire another helper so she contacted an agency. The agency sent Deepa Yadav to her home on January 26.

The businesswoman checked Deepa’s background and interviewed her before hiring her. Deepa was given duty hours from 9 AM to 7 PM. But she suddenly stopped coming to work.

When the employer contacted the agency, Deepa returned on January 28. On the same day, the complainant’s mother-in-law noticed that INR 21,000 in cash was missing from her cabinet.

All three domestic workers denied taking the money when they were questioned. The businesswoman then complained to the agency about Deepa’s irregular attendance and asked for a replacement.

Between February 20 and March 13, the businesswoman travelled abroad. On March 25, she checked her cupboard and found that more cash and some diamond-studded jewellery were missing. The total value of the stolen items was around INR 3.75 lakh.

She suspected Deepa and went to the Khar Police Station to file a report. The police registered a case and began investigating. On Saturday, both Deepa and Vaishali were called for questioning. During the interrogation, they confessed to stealing the cash and jewellery.

The police then arrested both women on charges of theft. According to police sources, efforts are now being made to recover the stolen items. The investigation is still going on.
