The Maharashtra government has announced ex-gratia of ₹4 lakh each for the families of deceased in Fort building collapse incident which has claimed 10 lives. The rescue operation by the Mumbai Fire Brigade and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) was carried out till Friday.
In his capacity as the guardian minister of Mumbai city, Maharashtra Textile Minister Aslam Shaikh announced ₹4 lakh each for the families of the deceased and said that ₹50,000 will be given to those who have sustained injuries.
Moreover, Shaikh informed that after discussions with Maharashtra Housing Minister Jitendra Awhad, the government will make arrangements to provide shelter to the residents until the competition of building’s repair work.
On Thursday, A ground plus five-storey building named 'Bhanushali' collapsed amid a heavy downpour near Lucky House in south Mumbai’s Fort area. As this happened, the personnel from disaster management and fire brigade rushed to the spot and started the rescue operation.
The death toll has increased to 10 as the rescue operations continued till Friday morning. Upon receiving the information, the personnel from the fire brigade and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) rushed to the spot.
The district administration was instructed to submit proposals immediately to provide additional assistance to the families of the deceased from the Chief Minister's Relief Fund (CMRF).
Earlier, the BMC officials had informed that building was vacated earlier for repair works but some of the families decided to stay. On Thursday, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray also visited the building collapse site in Fort to take stock of the situation.
