SRA shocks builders: Cancels permission to 24 projects

The Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) has started to give shocks to the builders who have duped the residents by not starting to work on the redevelopment projects even after passing of 10-15 years. The SRA has canceled permissions to 24 SRA schemes till date, informed Sandip Deshmukh, secretary of SRA.

There are 208 builders who have not started their SRA projects in the last 10-15 years. Some of them have followed the trend of securing permissions for SRA projects, getting slum-dwellers shifted to transit camps, demolishing their huts and stopping the project work. The SRA had received a large number of complaints in this regard. The SRA has finally started reviewing the pending projects and has completed the hearing for 124 projects. Of these 124 projects, the SRA has cancelled permissions of 24. Now, all attention is focused as to what will happen to the remaining 184 projects.

Deshmukh further informed that new builders will be appointed to complete the pending projects and if the slum-dwellers are against the builder they can approach the government so that SRA finds a way out.

It has come to fore that some builders have intentionally kept SRA projects pending and hence SRA has started acting against such builders.
