New rules will be imposed from the new academic year for private school buses transporting school students. For this, a member committee has been appointed under the chairmanship of retired transport officer Jitendra Patil. He will submit a report in this regard in the next one month, said Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik.

Thousands of school buses are run through private organisations that transport school students across the states. Complaints have come to the transport department that many institute managers are extorting money from parents through these school buses. Accordingly, a meeting was organised under the chairmanship of Transport Minister Saranaik. New rules will be fixed for these school buses from the coming academic year.

A member committee has been appointed under the chairmanship of retired transport officer Jitendra Patil and this committee will submit its report in the next one month. The measures suggested by the Madan Committee in 2011 to prevent the arbitrary behavior of rickshaw pullers plying students will also be considered.

These school buses transport students for 10 months out of the total duration however, the full year fee is charged at once which is excessive. Also, since school fees and school bus fees are charged simultaneously by the parents, it is a huge financial burden on the parents which is very unfair. Instead, the concerned school bus drivers should accept the student transport fee for ten months on a monthly basis instead of charging them at once.

Every bus must have a panic button, fire prevention, GPS system, CCTV camera etc. Also, institutions or schools where bus drivers charge student transport fees from parents, must have integrated control of CCTV cameras in buses. Minister Sarnaik suggested that the committee should consider all these suggestions and submit its report.
