Due to the campaign launched by the Thane Municipal Corporation for the recovery of water bill arrears, the water bill collection has crossed the mark of INR 100 crores. INR 18 crores more has been recovered compared to the same period last year. Also, so far 9603 tap connections have been removed and 411 motor pumps have been seized in the entire municipal area. Also, 547 pump rooms have been sealed. So, notices have been issued to 9923 defaulters.


The municipal water bill amount is around INR 225 crores. Out of which, INR 76 crore is outstanding and the current year's bill amount is INR 148 crore. Suburban Engineer Vinod Pawar has informed that INR 106 crores have been recovered so far. In case of non-payment of water bill dues, action has been taken to cut off tap connection and stop water supply. Thane Municipal Commissioner Saurabh Rao has given clear instructions in this regard. Also, Pawar also said that Additional Commissioner (1) Sandeep Malvi is continuously reviewing the recovery


If the bill is not paid, the water supply will be cut off

A water bill collection campaign has been started by setting the target of weekly water bill collection. Accordingly, for recovery of water bill arrears, tap connections are being disconnected, motor pumps are being confiscated, meter rooms are being sealed in all the wards of the Thane Municipal Corporation. Also, it has been directed to file criminal offenses if the broken tap connections are mutually re-commissioned without paying the water bill.

Action will be taken

The water bill recovery campaign is being implemented under the leadership of engineers of the water supply department in the ward committee and they have been instructed not to do any harm in the action. Also, disciplinary action and withholding of annual pay increment is also proposed against engineers and clerks involved in water bill collection. However, the citizens should pay the water bill on time, and the arrears should cooperate with the municipality by paying the bill. Suburban Engineer (Water Supply) Vinod Pawar has explained that otherwise the tap connection will be broken. 


Exemption from administrative fee on overdue bills

100 percent discount in administrative fee has been applied in case of full payment of dues of tap connection for domestic use in the municipal area along with current year demand. It has been appealed on behalf of the TMC that citizens should take advantage of this scheme. This scheme will be applicable till 31 March 2025. By taking advantage of this scheme, the citizens will be able to avail the benefit of 100 percent discount scheme in the administrative fee by fully paying the outstanding and current water bill amount.The said concession scheme will not be applicable to the household water bill holders who have deposited water supply charges before this policy decision. Also, the scheme will not be applicable to business combination holders.
