While Thanekar is reeling from traffic jams, untimely traffic of heavy vehicles has started once again due to police negligence. It is observed that heavy vehicle drivers are driving at high speed on Ghodbunder road. Therefore, citizens are asking the question of when the traffic of these heavy vehicles will be curbed.
Thane to Badlapur and Bhiwandi cities come under the Thane Police Commissionerate area. Important routes like Mumbai Nashik Highway, Ghodbunder, East Expressway pass through this area. Bhiwandi city has a large number of godowns. Therefore, heavy vehicles from JNPT port at Uran, Gujarat to Bhiwandi and Nashik areas are transported through Thane, Bhiwandi city. Heavy vehicles enter the city directly through Ghodbunder. Thanekar is puzzled by the problem of heavy traffic. For the past few months, heavy vehicles have been causing traffic jams in Thane city.
Heavy vehicles are permitted in the Thane Commissionerate area from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm and 11:00 pm to 5:00 am, with entry prohibited outside of these hours. However, it has been observed that these rules are not being strictly followed in Thane city. As vehicles leave the city in the morning, heavy vehicles have begun entering without restrictions, leading to traffic congestion on key routes like Ghodbunder and the Mumbai highway. This increase in vehicle load has caused gridlock on major roads across the city.
