Delay in issuance of fitness certificates has disrupted transport services and is directly affecting businesses supplying essential goods, said Bal Malkit Singh, chairman of core committee and former president of All India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC).

The earlier process allowing for expedited renewal on submission of renewal letters has been suspended. Besides, vehicles equipped with company-fitted Electronic Control Units (ECUS) are also being denied fitness certificates due to technical anomalies in the system, Singh said.
