The Elphinstone Bridge in Mumbai will be closed for two years from today, April 10 for the Sewri-Worli Connector project. Owing to this, there will be no vehicular movement on this bridge for the next two years. Therefore, the Mumbai Traffic Police has issued an advisory to avoid inconvenience.
The closure of the Elphinstone Bridge will have a major impact on traffic, causing major congestion to Mumbaikars.
Two ambulances, one at each side of Parel and Prabhadevi, have been deployed by the MMRDA, which will be ready for emergency situations during the construction duration.
Here are the details of the alternative routes:
- The commuters can utilise the foot overbridge between Parel and Prabhadevi railway stations at One International Centre.
- Drivers going towards Dadar West are required to make a right from Parel TT Junction, follow Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Road, make a left from Dadar TT Junction, go over Tilak Bridge, and continue towards their destination.
- For those traveling towards Worli and Prabhadevi, the journey is direct from Parel TT through Ambedkar Road to Krishna Nagar Junction, Parel Workshop, and Supari Baug Junction.
- From Bharat Mata Junction, the vehicles have to turn right on Mahadev Palav Road, cross the Currey Road Railway Bridge, turn right at Shingte Master Chowk, and proceed through the Lower Parel Bridge.
Traffic coming from Elphinstone Bridge towards Parel should proceed straight at Elphinstone Junction, take a left turn at Wadacha Naka Junction, then take Lower Parel Bridge and Mahadev Palav Road through Currey Road Bridge to arrive at Bharat Mata Junction.
- Elphinstone Junction through Wadacha Naka Junction, Lower Parel Bridge and NM Joshi Road to Chinchpokli Junction and then taking left for Sane Guruji Road crossing Chinchpokli Bridge and going through Sant Jagnade Chowk.
- Currey Road railway bridge will permit only one-way traffic from 7 am to 3 pm (Shingte Master Chowk to Bharat Mata Junction) and reverse from 3 pm to 11 pm. It will be two-way from 11 pm to 7 am.
