The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has taken strict action against abandoned vehicles in Matunga. Officials removed 54 vehicles from various roads on Tuesday, March 11. Notices were also issued to more than 150 vehicle owners, instructing them to remove their defective vehicles.
The F (North) Ward led this initiative. The civic body launched this campaign to address complaints from residents. Locals reported that abandoned vehicles were blocking roads and causing traffic issues. Some feared these vehicles could be misused for illegal activities.
The campaign was led by Assistant Commissioner Nitin Shukla and Deputy Commissioner Prashant Sapkale. Officials targeted key roads, including Wadala Fire Brigade Centre Marg, Balkrishna Sule Marg, Rafi Ahmed Kidwai Marg, Ravli Gantara Marg, Sheikh Misri Darga Marg, and Korba Mithagar Marg.
Out of the 54 removed vehicles, 37 owners moved their cars after receiving warnings. The remaining 17 were cleared by the administration. Notices were sent to 154 vehicle owners asking them to remove their cars.
As per reports, traffic flow in the area has improved after the drive. Local residents expressed their satisfaction with the action taken. The BMC will have similar drives to clear abandoned vehicles from city roads.
