The roof of a Mhada building suddenly collapsed in the Kannamwar Nagar area of Vikhroli on Thursday evening. In this, two elderly people living on the ground floor have died and the Vikhroli police are investigating the matter further. MHADA building number 40 near Ramabai Udyan in Kannamwar Nagar area is 50 to 60 years old. 40 to 50 families used to live in this three storied building. But 14 years ago, a developer took up the redevelopment of this building, so many people started their lives elsewhere. But due to the disputes of the society, the work of the building has been stalled for many years.


Ten to twelve families came to live there again as the building work was not going on. Meanwhile, on Thursday around seven in the evening, suddenly part of the roof of the second floor of this building collapsed on the first floor. Then the roof of the first floor collapsed on the ground floor. As soon as the residents living in the neighborhood came to know about this, they immediately informed the fire brigade about the incident. Accordingly, the fire brigade officials who arrived at the spot removed the debris and took out Sharad Mashalkar (75) and Suresh Mhadalkar (78), who were living on the ground floor, and admitted them to Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Hospital in Vikhroli. But both died before treatment.

After the incident, local MLA Sunil Raut visited the spot and informed that other families in the building have been provided temporary accommodation in a transit camp in the area. A few months ago, the building dispute was settled and the information was given to MHADA. However, he has alleged that this accident happened because MHADA did not give the no-objection certificate on time. Therefore, he has also demanded that the government should investigate and file a case of culpable homicide against the concerned officials. The MHADA Mumbai Board had given a no objection certificate for the redevelopment of the building. But the redevelopment was stalled. Let us inquire why he was stopped. However, Mhada informed that the redevelopment was stalled due to the dispute of the society.
