On Wednesday, Indian Premier League franchise Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) launched ‘first of its kind’, KKR Academy which aims to provide off-season training and coaching to KKR players. The Academy appointed Mumbai all-rounder Abhishek Nayar as the head coach and the mentor of the academy.

Venky Mysore, the KKR CEO and MD announced the appointment through a press release:
Abhishek's credentials as a cricketer and his deep desire and passion to help cricketers become better is very well known. We felt that he's ideally suited to lead this initiative."
Nayar is a seasoned cricketer and has played 99 first-class matches for Mumbai.
“KKR has a highly talented set of boys and with this kind of nurturing in the off-season, I am sure they will become better cricketers. I am also thankful to the KKR management for investing in the future of these promising cricketers,” Nayar said after his appointment.
The first two-week camp of the academy began on Wednesday in Bengaluru. Rinku Singh, Apoorv Wankhede, Nitish Rana and Shubman Gill will be the initial players taking the training. The training will consist of physical conditioning as well as skill training on various types of pitches.
Ex-Mumbai bowling coach, Omkar Salvi also has been placed on the board as the bowling coach for the Academy.
