The officers of Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Mumbai, have arrested three Ugandan nationals attempting to smuggle narcotic drugs into India. They have seized 2,197 grams of cocaine worth over INR 20 crore.

The suspects had arrived at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA), Mumbai on a flight from Uganda.

The three passengers have been identified as - Aziz Nsubuga (31), Godfrey Brian Batte (25) and Sula Bagala (34).

According to information gathered by specific intelligence three passengers belonging to Republic of Uganda National, travelling from Entebbe to Mumbai would land on January 23, 2025, at the Mumbai airport and they had concealed some narcotics substance with them.

Upon questioning, all three individuals admitted to ingesting capsules containing narcotic drugs for the purpose of smuggling.

The suspects were produced before the Magistrate and as per the court order, were admitted to a nearby government hospital for medical observation. The suspects purged a total of 170 capsules, which contained 2197 grams of cocaine, with an estimated market value of INR 21.97 crores in the illicit trade.

The narcotics were seized under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. As a result, all three individuals were arrested and charged under the provisions of the NDPS Act.

Further investigation is in progress.
