Pahalgam is once again in the news. A man raped a 70-year-old woman who hails from Maharashtra in Pahalgam. According to a report in the Times of India, she was sexually assaulted in a hotel room. She suffered severe physical injuries.
The accused, Zubair Ahmed, entered the room of the female tourist. He then covered the woman's mouth with a sheet and raped her. After the assault, he jumped out of the window and ran away. The incident took place on April 11. The accused is a local resident of Pahalgam. He has been arrested and is currently in judicial custody. A case has been registered under sections 64 and 331(4) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Court refuses to grant bail to the accused.
On June 27, the Principal Sessions Judge of Anantnag refused to grant bail to Zubair Ahmad. The court said that considering the gravity of the crime, an ongoing investigation and available evidence, bail should not be granted at this stage.
