The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has filed a complaint against an individual allegedly collecting fees from residents in the M/East ward, which comprises areas of Govandi and Mankhurd.
A report was received by the assistant municipal commissioner of the M East ward. The individual was charging INR 100 from residents for applying online for the 'Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana' scheme. This led to a complaint being filed at the Deonar police station on Monday, July 15, against the unidentified individual. It should be noted that applications for the scheme are free.
Civic authorities have urged residents to report any suspicious activities. They have also warned against paying money to unknown people for the application process.
To prevent such incidents, the civic council plans to set up a support desk at the ward level. This will provide assistance and information to residents, making sure they do not fall victim to fraud.
The scheme is inspired by the Madhya Pradesh government's 'Ladli Bahen' initiative. It provides a monthly allowance of INR 1,500 to women aged 21 to 65. The goal of the scheme is to support women's economic development.
The application deadline has been extended from July 15 to August 31. The online forms are also available at the citizen felicita0tion centres in civic wards. Anganwadi personnel in all 24 administrative wards of the city are assisting eligible women with the online application process.
