The Mumbai unit of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) on Thursday, March 20, arrested a Brazilian female passenger at the international airport after it allegedly seized cocaine, estimated to be worth over 11 crore in the illicit markets, from her possession.

Based on intelligence that a Brazilian national arriving at Mumbai airport might be carrying narcotics, DRI Mumbai officers intercepted the passenger who had arrived from Sau Paulo in flight AF 218.

On personal search of the passenger, seven pouches containing viscous liquid substance were found stitched in inner clothing. On testing with field test kit, the viscous liquid substance tested positive for cocaine. The passenger also accepted that she was carrying cocaine in these pouches. 1110 gm of cocaine in liquid form, valued at INR 11.1 Crores in the illicit market was recovered.

The recovered cocaine was seized under the NDPS Act, 1985 and the passenger was arrested under the provisions of the NDPS Act, 1985. Further investigation is in progress.
