The accused, who knew the girl since 2019, had once been booked by the victim's father under the POCSO Act. He was then arrested. After about six months in jail, he was released and later went to his hometown in Karnataka where he worked as a bus driver.
According to the police, the relation between the dead girl got in contact with another boy and their relationship deteriorated. And this made Dawood angry with her.
On July 22, Dawood Shaikh came to Uran according to call records. And his phone was switched off from July 25, an officer of the crime branch said. What happened between them on July 25 that led to him stabbing the girl and killing her is being thoroughly investigated by the police. Also, the accused has not yet been brought to Navi Mumbai for further investigation.
Meanwhile, Commissioner of Police, Zone I, Vivek Pansare has clarified that social media posts on the 'brutal' killing are false. The girl was stabbed. "Her private parts were injured, her head was smashed, her breasts were cut, her hands were cut off, all this is misleading and false news."
