An IT professional was attacked during a road rage incident in Navi Mumbai and died from his injuries on February 2. The incident happened near Belpada and Utsav Chowk when the victim was returning home from work. The accused fled the scene and the police are now searching for him.
The victim has been identified as Shivkumar Sharma. He worked for an IT company in Vashi and was heading home to Kharghar. On his way back, he tried to overtake a scooter but got into an argument with the rider. The argument increased and both stopped their vehicle.
The rider then hit Sharma on the head multiple times with a helmet and escaped. Later, Sharma went to the police station to file a complaint. However, he suddenly collapsed there. He was taken to the hospital, where doctors provided initial treatment. However, he was declared dead soon after.
According to the police, he suffered fatal internal injuries from the attack. The victim’s family is now demanding justice.
The police has formed 10 special teams from the Crime Branch and Navi Mumbai police. Officers have reviewed over 70,000 CCTV cameras but haven't identified the vehicle. The CCTV footage is blurred, and no camera has captured the scooter’s number plate.
Investigators believe that two people were involved in the attack. One suspect, wearing a green outfit, hit Sharma with the helmet. The other, dressed in black, is believed to be an accomplice. The police suspect the accused may be from Chembur or Govandi. They have circulated an image from CCTV footage in WhatsApp groups too.
The scooter used by the accused is believed to be a blue Activa. The visible part of the number plate shows "MH03," but the full number is unclear.
A case has been registered under the BNS sections 103 (murder), 351 (criminal intimidation), and 3 (common intention) against the accused.
