Matunga police arrested nine people in a crackdown on an interstate child trafficking gang. The accused include eight women who were arrested from the area in Mumbai, Gujarat and Karnataka. A doctor and a nurse from Karnataka are also suspected to be involved in this crime. The rescued four-month-old girl was sold to a couple in Karnataka's Karwar for INR 5 lakh, a senior police officer said.
The arrested accused have been identified as Sulochana Suresh Kamble (45), Meera Rajaram Yadav (40), Yogesh Bhoir (37), Roshni Ghosh (34), Sandhya Rajput (48), Madina aka Munni Imam Chavan (44), Tainaz Shahin Chauhan (19), Baby Moinuddin Tamboli (50) and Manisha Sunny Yadav (32).
Manisha Yadav is the mother of a four-month-old girl who was sold. The accused, who live in Dadar, Diva, Shivdi, Kalyan, Vadodara, Karwar and Miraj, work as wedding arrangers, patient care and hospital nannies. The grandmother of the sold girl had lodged a complaint with the police in this case. The complainant resides in Sion-Mahim Link Road area and on December 11, she lodged a police complaint against her daughter-in-law for taking her four-month-old daughter to Bangalore and selling it.
After registering this complaint, the police registered a case. Also, when Manisha Yadav was detained and interrogated, she confessed to selling the baby to a couple from Karnataka with the help of Madina alias Munni and Tainaj, who live in Vadodara, for which she informed the police that she received INR 1 lakh.

A team from Matunga and other police stations in Circle 4 under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner of Police, Circle 4, Ragasudha R, was investigating the crime. The team arrested eight women along with one man from Vadodara as well as Thane, Mumbai, Diva Kalyan and Karnataka. When they were thoroughly interrogated, it was learned that the girl was sold to a couple from Karwar for INR 5 lakh, of which INR 1 lakh was given to the girl's mother, while the other women received INR 10,000 to INR 15,000 each.
The arrested accused were informed that a gynecologist doctor and a nurse from Karwar were involved in the gang selling children. A 4-month-old girl who was sold from Karwar was rescued by the police. The police have predicted that five to six children have been sold by this gang so far. The arrested accused have been produced in the Bhoiwada court and have been remanded in police custody till December 19.
Police informed that further investigation is going on in this case and some more people including doctor and nurse will be arrested soon.
