A Crime Branch official’s action against a dance bar did not earn him accolades but a slap. The incident took place on Wednesday when a deputy police commissioner slapped the officer who carried out a raid in the dance bar.

What’s the story?

The Crime Branch got a tip that Aruna dance bar is running illegally at Malad’s S V Road. Based on which, the officers of crime branch unit no. 11 carried out a raid and rescued 24 bar girls and took 12 customers in custody.

The Crime Branch police gave information about the action to the local police commissioner Vikram Deshmane. Around 2:00 AM in the night, Deshmane arrived at the spot and before anyone could understand he slapped the police inspector who carried out the raid. But after a while, he realised his mistake and then he was sorry for his action.

This incident has triggered all sorts of discussions amongst police officers who believe that the bar was deliberately kept under wraps as the deputy police commissioner had financial interests in the bar.

Harassment by seniors

Harassment by seniors in the police department is quite common. But this slapping incident has raised a lot of questions and the issue of senior officers harassing juniors has come to the forefront. According to the sources, the deputy commissioner from the Crime Branch has ordered an inquiry into the incident.
