State Excise Department cracks down on smuggling liquor from Goa; INR12 lakh foreign liquor seized

A team of the State Excise Department has revealed that foreign liquor permitted to be sold in Goa is being smuggled through mango boxes. In the operation conducted on Morgaon-Supa road in Baramati, liquor bottles worth 12 lakh 61 thousand and a cargo vehicle (pickup) worth INR 30 lakh were seized. Four people were arrested in this case.


Names of those arrested are Namdev Haribhau Khaire, Sandeep Baban Sanap, Gorakh Bhagwan Palve, Mahesh Gulabrao Autade. It was revealed that the accused had hidden the bottles of liquor from Goa in a mango box kept in the pick-up vehicle to avoid suspicion. A pick-up vehicle had left for the city from Goa. The team under the guidance of Excise Department Superintendent Charan Singh Rajput, Deputy Superintendent Uttam Shinde, Sujit Patil, Santosh Jagdale was patrolling the Mergaon-Supa road.

A team of the Daund Department of the State Excise Office received information that liquor was being smuggled from the village through a vehicle. After that, the team checked a pick-up vehicle along with a car near Murti village. During interrogation, the driver gave vague answers. The team inspected. Bottles of liquor were then found in the pickup vehicle.


The accused kept boxes of mangoes to avoid suspicion. After the team removed the boxes from the vehicle, they found a box of liquor. A case was registered against four people in this case and they were arrested. Inspector Vijay Rokde, Sub-Inspector Pradeep Jhunjrook, Constable Shubham Bhoite, Keshav Vamane took this action.
