Three members of the same family were allegedly murdered in their own house and their bodies were discovered on Friday, August 30. According to the police, the murder is suspected to have taken place around August 17 as the highly decomposed bodies were infested with maggots.

The deceased have been identified as Mukund Bechardas Rathod (75), his wife Kanchan (72) and their unmarried and physically challenged daughter Sangeeta (52). Police believe that after committing the crime, the accused locked the house from outside to showcase that no one was there in the house.

Rathod's son Pankaj (43) lives in Virar West and works in a private company. The matter came to light when he tried calling his father on August 17 and got no response. He tried calling for many days until Pankaj along with his relative decided to visit his father.

After coming home, the house was found locked from outside. Then Pankaj and his relative broke the lock and entered the house. And decomposed bodies of family members were found. The bodies of the two women, Kanchan and her daughter Sangeeta, were kept in a wooden trunk covered with bedsheets, while Mukund's body was lying in a small space near their bathroom, also covered with clothes, a police officer said.

Police officials said that they are also not sure how the deceased died, as the bodies were decomposed and the cause of death would be known only after the post-mortem report. The Wada police have registered an FIR under Sections 103(1) (murder) and 238 (destruction of evidence) of the Indian Penal Code (BNS) against the unknown assailants.
