Among the leading dental colleges in the country is Nair Dental College and students from all over the country tend to seek admission in Nair Dental College. However, as there is no postgraduate course in Public Health Dentistry in the college, many students are discouraged. Therefore, Nair Dental College has started efforts to start this course.
Eating leaves, tobacco, gutkha, cigarettes, betel nuts, lime etc., deteriorates the oral health of citizens. Many people get mouth cancer. This causes the skin in the person's mouth to harden and gradually stop opening the mouth. Such persons are treated by the Department of Public Health Dentistry.
The Public Health Dentistry degree course is taught in Nair Dental College. But since there is no postgraduate course, students have to go to other colleges. Therefore, specialist doctors are not available to the patients who come to the dental hospital for treatment. The administration has made efforts to start postgraduate courses in the college so that patients can get treatment from expert doctors.
Necessary infrastructure and systems have been made available for the course. So we have completed the first phase. A proposal has been submitted to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Administration to recruit the required manpower. After approval from the administration, the proposal will be sent to the Dental Council of India for approval of the course. The founder of Nair Dental College and Hospital Neelam Andrade informed that the course will be started after approval by the council.
