A sizable portion of Maharashtra's schools now have access to computers, according to a recent survey conducted by the Pratham Education Foundation. Approximately 78.4% of Maharashtra's schools currently have computer facilities, according to the survey report. The report also states that Maharashtra showed an improvement in reading and math skills.

About 24% of students already use computers for their studies, according to the survey, which was carried out in rural regions. It did, however, also draw attention to the fact that 48.3% of schools still lack computer equipment. The data as a whole, however, indicates that many schools throughout the state have access to computers.

According to the survey, girls had better access to sanitary facilities, it added. The Department of School Education reports that around 96.8% of schools provide clean restrooms for girls.

Of the 872 schools surveyed, 409 primary and 463 upper primary schools were located in rural areas. Despite Maharashtra having 108,144 schools overall, just 0.81 percent of them were included in this poll. Similarly, 33,746 kids out of 2,09,61,800 students were polled, representing a mere 0.16 percent of the state's overall student population, according to the survey's report.

There were several positive tendencies in the survey regarding student progress.

Reports stated that 38.5% of children between the age range of 6 and 14 attend private schools, whilst 60.9% are enrolled in government institutions. Notably, reading and math proficiency among children in classes 1 and 2 improved. According to the official announcement, these advancements are being viewed as a recovery from the learning losses brought on by the COVID-19 epidemic.

The findings of the study also revealed that for the academic years 2022-23 and 2023-24, reading proficiency and mathematical aptitude increased by 10.9% and 13.1%, respectively, in government schools. The report also mentioned that the private schools also demonstrated improvement in reading by 8.1% and math by 11.5%.

Maharashtra's school enrolment has also improved significantly. With one of the lowest percentages of out-of-school children in the nation, 98% of children between the age range of 15 and 16 are enrolled in school as of 2024.

For the last eight years, the state has kept the school enrolment rate for students aged 6 to 14 at over 99 percent, it said.

Additionally, the survey emphasised the accessibility of digital technologies.

As many as 84.1% of students between the age range of 14 and 16 use smartphones for educational purposes, while 94.2% of them have access to smartphones.

There have also been advancements in early childhood education in the state. The number of students attending pre-primary schools increased from 93.9% in 2022 to 95% in 2024. Since 2018, the 6–14 age group's enrolment rate has stayed consistent at above 99%.
