The air quality in Mumbai has been steadily worsening over the past few days. As per records on the Sameer App, the city's air quality falls in the 'moderate' category, with an air index of 191 on Wednesday. However, some areas have reported even worse conditions, with air quality categorized as 'extremely bad' or 'bad.' The presence of harmful PM 2.5 and PM 10 dust particles in the atmosphere has also increased significantly.

On Wednesday evening, Borivali recorded 'extremely bad' air quality with an air index of 304. Other areas such as Deonar, Kandivali, Malad, Navy Nagar, Colaba, Sewri, and Worli reported 'bad' air, with indices of 243, 221, 265, 286, 300, 217, and 247, respectively. Meanwhile, Byculla, Mulund, and Powai experienced 'moderate' air quality. Such deteriorating conditions pose serious health risks to residents.

The dust levels in Mumbai have reached hazardous proportions, making the air dangerous for citizens' health. The increasing pollution is reflected in the alarming rise of PM 2.5 and PM 10 dust particles in the atmosphere. PM 2.5, being finer than PM 10, is particularly harmful as it easily enters the body through breathing. Ideally, its concentration should not exceed 45 microcubic, but current levels are far higher, intensifying health concerns.

Dust particles containing carbon sulfates, carbon dioxide, sulfur dioxide, and nitrogen oxides exacerbate the situation when they surpass safe limits. Such pollution is leading to a rise in respiratory and skin-related diseases. Conditions like asthma, pneumonia, lung cancer, respiratory inflammation, and skin issues such as dryness, cracking, redness, and itching are becoming increasingly common in the city.
