Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) has planted 500 trees near 13 stations on the 'Colaba-Bandra-Seepz Metro 3' route and now MMRC has decided to plant 2,600 more trees. Therefore, now the area of the stations on the 'Metro 3' route will be green. MMRC has started planting trees in the station premises on the 'Metro 3' line as per the undertaking submitted in the High Court.


More than 500 trees have been planted near 13 metro stations namely Seepz, MIDC, Shitladevi, Dadar, Siddhivinayak, Science Museum, Mahalakshmi, Mumbai Central, CSMT, Churchgate, Vidhan Bhawan and Cuffe Parade. Now 2600 trees will be planted near other stations. MMRC has awarded three contracts for tree plantation at the original site.

Appointed contractors are entrusted with the responsibility of supplying, planting and maintaining the trees rooted in the nursery. After the completion of the construction of the stations, these trees are being planted at their original place. Flowering plants, ornamental trees, evergreen trees of about seven years age and 15 feet height are being planted.


The tree species selected for the in situ plantation drive include Mahogany, Bakul, Pimpal, Sonchafa, Nilmohor, Taman, Kadamba, Desi Badam, Akash Neem, Spathodea, Tabebuya, Umbrella-tree, Saptaparni, Pimpal, Pangara, Wild Almond, Chafa, etc. So far more than 500 trees have been planted, three years of maintenance, regular irrigation and horticultural maintenance are the responsibility of the same contractors.
