There is continuous rain and severe waterlogging in Mumbai, due to which IMD has issued a red alert for parts of Central Maharashtra till July 24. Heavy rain is expected in the city, its suburbs and neighbouring districts - Thane, Palghar and Raigad - with a high tide alert issued for the afternoon.
The weather department has predicted heavy rain with yellow alert for Mumbai and Thane on Tuesday and orange alert on Wednesday. The red alert extends to Gujarat, Konkan, Goa and western Madhya Pradesh, indicating the seriousness of the situation. Continuous heavy rain since Saturday evening has caused massive waterlogging and traffic disruption. A mobile tower collapsed in Bhandup, damaging several houses, but fortunately there were no casualties.

With a warning of heavy rain, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has deployed teams across Maharashtra. Apart from its regular presence in Mumbai and Nagpur, NDRF teams are deployed in Vasai (Palghar), Thane, Ghatkopar, Powai (Kurla), Mahad (Raigad), Khed and Chiplun (Ratnagiri), Kudal (Sindhudurg), Kolhapur, Sangli and Satara.
