Another Zika patient has been found in Kurla, Mumbai. A 15-year-old girl living in Kurla has contracted Zika and has other chronic illnesses. Meanwhile, on July 19, the first Zika patient was found in Chembur, Mumbai. The Zika infected girl was suffering from fever and headache since August 20. Initially, she was treated in a private hospital.
She was admitted to the public hospital on September 5. After realising that this girl has Zika, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has conducted a survey of the houses in the area where she lives. No new suspected patient or febrile patient was found in it. Aedes mosquitoes were found in the vicinity of the patient's building. Mosquito control measures have been implemented there.
Zika disease is a mild illness caused by the Zika virus. The disease is spread by infected Aedes mosquitoes. Aedes mosquitoes also transmit dengue and chikungunya. Although this disease is viral, it does not spread as fast as Covid. About 80 percent of people infected with the Zika virus have no symptoms. People with other illnesses are more likely to get serious infections. Such a patient may require hospitalisation.
