The number of coronavirus cases in the state has increased over the last few days, and keeping the spread in mind, the local municipality along with the state government has taken decisions to seal some areas in Mumbai to control this spread and to ensure reduce risk.
An important update, as of April 4, 2020, states that a 60-year-old from Dadar's Shivaji Park area has tested positive for COVID19. The patient runs a printing press and has an employee who is a resident of Worli Koliwada. Hence, it is suspected that the virus may have spread through this contact. Upon knowing the same, officials rushed to the building and have quarantined all his family members. Further, the building has been sealed too. Further, the patient does not have any travel history.
The update as of Saturday has revealed that the number of coronavirus positive cases in Maharashtra has increased to 537, with Mumbai having the most number of cases in the state. While 42 cases have been discharged, 21 deaths have been reported. So far, 306 cases have tested positive for COVID-19 in Mumbai.
Considering the seriousness, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has sealed 191 areas in Mumbai, and they have been tagged as no-go zones. These containment areas have at least one or more coronavirus cases and officials aim to control this by not letting people step in or out of the zones. Necessary essentials are being provided. Further, three COVID-19 cases have been identified in Dharavi - Asia's largest slums, and one of them, a 56-year-old man passed away during the treatment. Other two patients are undergoing treatment at a hospital in Mumbai.
