The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has launched two mobile health check-up centres in Mumbai Suburbs as part of the “Hinduhridaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Aapla Dawakhana Yojana"” initiative. It was launched on October 3 by Mangal Prabhat Lodha, District Guardian Minister of Mumbai Suburbs.

The BMC has been continuously working to make healthcare more accessible to all residents through the “Aapla Dawakhana” project. The goal of this scheme is to bring healthcare to underserved suburbs of Mumbai. Residents will receive free medical check-ups, consultations, and medicines at these clinics.

The newly launched mobile health check-up centres are located in P South and M East divisions of the city. One will cover the Aarey Colony area in the P South Division, while the other will serve Anna Bhau Sathe Nagar, Lotus Vasahat, Rafi Nagar, and Chita Camp in the M East Division.

The mobile clinics were established with the help of the corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative of the Americares India Foundation. These mobile units will operate from 9 am to 4 pm providing essential healthcare services. Each mobile unit is staffed by a medical officer, a nurse, a chemist, and a multifunctional worker. These mobile clinics are designed to serve areas with poor healthcare infrastructure. Aarey Colony is one such location. This region does not have enough medical facilities due to forest.

The only hospital in the area is in a poor state. Many of the residents of Aarey Colony are Adivasis and have to travel to Goregaon for medical emergencies. This includes incidents like snake bites and leopard attacks. The bad condition of the internal roads in Aarey has made the situation worse.

While speaking at the launch event, the BMC Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani spoke about the importance of reaching out to isolated communities. Additional Municipal Commissioner Dr. Vipin Sharma acknowledged the difficulties in setting up healthcare services in such areas. Now, with the launch of these mobile health units, medical care will be brought directly to the residents.
