Mumbai: Resident doctors demand an anonymous complaint facility

Resident doctors have demanded that medical colleges should provide a complaint facility through google application or mail so that the doctors who are under pressure, can express their problems and complaints anonymously. It was also said by the doctors that the interaction between the doctors, their language and behaviour often lead to disputes.

KEM Hospital recently organised a seminar on 'Violence against Doctors and Women' in view of the protest by resident doctors in the wake of the unfortunate incident in Kolkata. In it, experts gave guidance on attacks on resident doctors and violence against women.

Also the attending resident doctors directly presented the problems they were facing. Eminent psychiatrist Dr. Harish Shetty and advocate Persis Sidhwa, Dr. Sangeeta Rawat, founder of KEM Hospital, educational director Dr. Harish Pathak and others were present in this seminar.

Resident doctors expressed concern about the language used by the senior doctors of the hospital and their behaviour and interactions. Due to the rural and urban dispute, barriers are created in the mutual communication between the doctors. Also, it was said by the doctor that because of the unnecessary importance given to the use of the word 'sir', there is often 'ragging' by the seniors in the hospital. He said that the intervention of professors is important to reduce this type.

Psychiatrist Dr Harish Shetty drew attention to the mental health problems of doctors. When he asked all the students present if they had ever thought about harming themselves or sought psychological support, most students raised their hands. This, he said, highlighted the need for a more open discussion about their mental health. He clarified that many people have not benefited from the service started by KEM Hospital founder Dr. Sangeet Rawat for counselling resident doctors.
