The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is all set to conduct a special vaccination drive on September 4 wherein all the government and BMC centres will only vaccinate people who are eligible for a second dose.
They mentioned that "centres will not administer the first dose of vaccine on September 4". Tweeting the same they informed the citizens:
Dear Mumbaikars,
— माझी Mumbai, आपली BMC (@mybmc) September 3, 2021
Special sessions have been organized to administer the second dose of Covid-19 vaccines at all Govt. & BMC Vaccination Centers tomorrow, September 4.
Please note that first dose of the vaccine will not be administered on this day. #BMCVaccinationUpdates https://t.co/Dw6OMKOfak
The decision was taken so that there is an increase in the number of fully vaccinated citizens in Mumbai. The guidelines issued earlier in August mentioned that citizens who have completed both of their doses can travel to Mumbai locals and enter malls from August 15. The city is currently battling a shortage of vaccines and the demand for consistent free vaccine drive is high.
The civic body also released the list of centres, that will conduct the special vaccination drive, on its official Twitter handle.

Immunization programme began in the city from January 16, reportedly from all age groups 95.62 lakh citizens have received vaccination but only 25.98 lakh citizens are fully vaccinated. It was observed that there was an increase in the positivity rate percent on Thursday.
Even though there is a rise in COVID cases again and the per cent of fully vaccinated people in the city is less BMC has said that if the vaccine supply is consistent, early next year adult population will be fully vaccinated.
