The number of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases in Thane district has crossed the 1-lakh mark on Thursday, August 6, and with this Thane becomes the third district after Mumbai and Pune with more than a lakh cases.
Data released by the state health department on Thursday showed that a total of 11,514 new Covid-19 cases were identified on August 6, 2020. This was the highest single-day count observed in the state, and the earlier count was recorded on July 30 with 11,147 cases.
As of Mumbai, the number of cases has reduced significantly, and the data contributes to only eight per cent of the total cases in the state. However, the number of cases in Thane also crossed a lakh and became the third district in the state to cross this mark with COVID-19 cases.
Currently, the state has 4,79,779, and with the addition of 910 cases, Mumbai has a total of 1,20,150 cases. An increasing number of cases have been observed in Thane on a daily basis, and the district now has 1,00,875 cases, out of which 27,012 are active.
