The ambitious initiative to transform Dharavi has been marked by a significant development with the rebranding of Dharavi Redevelopment Project Private Ltd (DRPPL) as Navbharat Mega Developers Private Ltd (NMDPL). The change was undertaken to align the company’s identity with its renewed vision and commitment to creating a modern and inclusive community. The announcement was made following approvals from the Board of Directors and the Ministry of Corporate Affairs.

It has been conveyed by the company that the new name reflects its dedication to progress, renewal, and inclusivity. The term Navbharat, meaning "New India," has been associated with the hope of a brighter future, while Mega emphasizes the scale of the redevelopment efforts, and Developers signifies its role in building vibrant communities. This rebranding exercise has also been intended to eliminate confusion with the Dharavi Redevelopment Project Authority (DRP), the government body supervising the initiative.

A clarification has been issued that the core mission of the project remains unchanged. Navbharat Mega Developers, formed as a special purpose vehicle, has been structured as a partnership between the Government of Maharashtra—through the Dharavi Redevelopment Project (DRP) and the Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA)—and the Adani Group. The government’s pivotal role in overseeing the redevelopment has been reaffirmed, ensuring the project adheres to its original vision and remains centered on transparency and the welfare of Dharavi’s residents.

The redevelopment has been described as a transformative effort aimed at improving living conditions while preserving the entrepreneurial spirit of Dharavi’s community. Modern housing, along with state-of-the-art infrastructure such as transportation networks, water supply, electricity, and internet connectivity, is being promised as part of the initiative. A hygienic environment and enhanced civic amenities have also been included in the project’s objectives, which are being benchmarked against global standards of urban development.

The project has been portrayed as a crucial step in India’s journey toward becoming a slum-free nation. A human-centric transformation has been envisioned, with the rebuilding of spaces and the reimagining of community life as core priorities. Navbharat Mega Developers has reiterated its commitment to creating a better tomorrow for Dharavi, blending tradition with progress. With the rebranding now completed, the Dharavi redevelopment effort is being viewed as a symbol of resilience and opportunity, reflecting the aspirations of a "New India" and the potential for large-scale urban transformation.
