The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has proposed two new roads to reduce traffic congestion near Malad station. The roads, each 9.15 meters wide, will connect SV Road and Anand Road. They will improve the traffic flow and provide direct access to Malad station.

A study conducted by IIT Bombay analysed the arterial road in the P/north ward. It said that the current routes see 8,268 passengers per hour during peak times. The narrow roads, combined with issues like illegal hawking, encroachments, and unauthorised parking, worsen the traffic situation.

To deal with this, the civic authority had proposed constructing new arterial roads. One road will run alongside Malad Shopping Center, and the other will pass near Somayya Chambers. Structures along these proposed routes will be demolished after completing the necessary legal procedures.

These new roads will allow easier travel between Malad station and SV Road. Union Commerce Minister and Mumbai (North) MP Piyush Goyal has also reviewed the project. As per reports, he has directed the staff to complete the work within a set timeframe.

Speaking to reporters on January 4, Goyal stated that construction should begin in three to four months. He assured that the project is progressing swiftly and will benefit Malad residents by easing traffic.

As the new roads are developed, traffic will be diverted, and travel time will be improved. As per reports, the arterial routes such as Anand Road, Kasturba Road, Ishwarlal Parekh Road, and Sainath Road, leading to the station, will also be widened. Encroachment along these roads is also being cleared.
