As part of the Mumbai Coastal Road Project (MCRP), the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is considering building public toilets and police posts near Girgaum Chowpatty and Marine Drive. To obtain the required No Objection Certificate (NOC) for the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ), the BMC has appointed an environmental expert consultant.
The 10.58 km coastal road stretches from the Princess Street Flyover at Marine Drive to the Worli end of the Bandra-Worli Sea Link. The project includes multi-level interchanges at key locations such as Haji Ali, Peddar Road (Amarsons Garden) and Worli Sea Face.
As the project is in the final stages of completion, the BMC is now planning to build public toilets and a police station at the site. M/s Building Environment India Pvt Ltd has been appointed as the consulting company to obtain the required NOC for construction of toilets in the CRZ area.
A 550-metre vehicular underpass (VUP) is expected to open next month, aimed at easing traffic for motorists heading towards Coastal Road from Ramyan, Dadar and Prabhadevi. In addition, a 7.5 km Marine Drive-like promenade, with jogging tracks, seating areas and green spaces, stretching from Priyadarshini Park to Worli, will open by May 2025.
