Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has announced the construction of a 14-lane road near the Atal Setu sea bridge.
Speaking at an event organised by COEP Technological University, Nitin Gadkari said, "The new highway will connect Pune with a ring road and further extend to Bengaluru. Mumbai-Pune Expressway has heavy traffic. A 14-lane road will be constructed near Atal Setu, which will further be connected to Pune by ring road and then to Bangalore. This road will reduce the traffic on the expressway by 50 percent."
The new highway will make the Mumbai-Pune journey even smoother. Along with this, the vehicular congestion on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway will be significantly reduced. This new highway will make it very easy to go to Pune, Satara, Solapur, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and Bangalore.
Atal Setu will now be connected to Solapur and Satara by expressway. After coming down from Atal Setu, a 14-lane road will be constructed. This highway will directly connect Bangalore and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.
Along with this, this road will be connected with Pune Ring Road. This new highway will also make it easier to go to Satara and Solapur. The cost of this new highway is likely to be around 17 thousand crore rupees.
Efforts to make Mumbai-Pune journey smooth
The new expressway will further reduce the travel time on the Mumbai to Pune Expressway. You can reach Pune from Mumbai in just two hours.
It currently takes three and a half hours to travel from Mumbai to Pune. But due to this new expressway, the travel time will be saved by one and a half to one and a half hours, according to an official of the National Highways Authority of India.
Details of new highway:
Atal Setu and JNPT will be directly connected to Pune, Satara, Solapur through this highway. It will be a 130 km long superfast expressway. This highway is going to be direct Chowk-Pune-Shivare junction.
This highway will have 8 lanes for fast travel. The construction of this road will cost approximately Rs 17,500 crore. Currently, the outline of this new highway is being prepared by the National Highways Authority of India. After the completion of this highway, it will be of great benefit to the passengers.
