On Wednesday, April 20, Maharashtra Home Minister Dilip Walse Patil mentioned that the state government would discuss with leaders of prominent political parties including the MNS Chief Raj Thackeray, prior to finalizing the guidelines for the utilization of loudspeakers at religious places, reports highlighted.

At the same time, Patil remarked that its use will only be permitted following the attainment of the requisite permissions. The state home minister was quoted in accounts elaborating on how they have also invited religious organizations for discussions prior to the finalisation of guidelines.

Patil believes that the operation of loudspeakers or their removal was not the state government's job by means of any act. Instead, he said that it is the management of the religious places that use them who will have to adhere to the guidelines made in a timely manner in accordance with the court orders.

The home minister, based on narratives further mentioned that loudspeakers could not be used without permission from the authorities. He uttered that there is a Supreme Court order of 2005 and GRs made after that, with the recent ones being in 2015 and 2017 that speak about the noise level while making use of loudspeakers.

Patil declared that the police will see to it that there is strict implementation of these GRs and its order. Recently, the minister had also mentioned that there have been attempts to hamper the law and order in Maharashtra over the last few days, however, the police have been taking precautionary measures.

This row of loudspeakers erupted after the MNS Chief Raj Thackeray declared that loudspeakers be removed from mosques before May 3.
