Following the resounding success of the Mahayuti alliance in the Maharashtra Assembly elections, ambitious plans for Mumbai’s development have been outlined. A focus on establishing a “triple engine government” was highlighted by Union Minister of Commerce and Mumbai North MP, Piyush Goyal, during a press conference in Mumbai. The goal of securing 40 seats in the upcoming municipal corporation elections in the Mumbai North constituency has been set, with efforts being directed toward achieving this target. A report regarding the same was published in the Indian Express.
The double engine government currently serving the city was acknowledged for its ongoing contributions, but the establishment of a triple engine administration was proposed as a means to further accelerate growth. The transformation of Mumbai into a world-class city, as envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, was cited as a key objective. The timeline for the corporation elections, however, was noted to depend on permission being granted by the Supreme Court. The alliance’s success in the recent Lok Sabha and Assembly elections was attributed to developmental activities undertaken in Mumbai North in recent months. Confidence was expressed by Goyal that this progress would be sustained in the upcoming municipal elections, with a strategy for securing a significant number of corporator seats in the region being outlined.
A review meeting was convened by Goyal with senior officials, including the BMC Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani, SRA Chief, and MMRDA Commissioner Sanjay Mukherjee. Development projects worth over ₹60,000 crore were discussed, with a special focus placed on the Mumbai North constituency. Attention was drawn to the coastal road project connecting Versova and Bhayandar, which was reported to be awaiting final permissions. It was stated that approvals, including those related to mangroves, were expected within 45 days, after which construction could commence.
The road concretization project being undertaken across the city was also addressed. It was indicated that a timeline of 75 days had been set for the completion of each road stretch, with an additional 15 days allocated for areas requiring major utility adjustments. The goal of completing 1,400 stretches by May 31 was reaffirmed. The revival of the BMC’s desalination plant in Manori was highlighted as another key project. Instructions were issued for the acceleration of this initiative to enhance the city’s water infrastructure. Through these efforts, it was stated that Mumbai’s development would be significantly advanced, aligning with the broader vision of creating a global city.
