Ravindra Chavan, former minister and legislator from Dombivli, is being considered for the position of Maharashtra BJP president. The announcement of his appointment as the state in-charge of the organizational renewal campaign, Sanghatan Parv, was made on Saturday. This move has led to heightened speculation about his elevation to the top state post, as the current president, Chandrashekhar Bawankule, has been included in the Mahayuti 2.0 government as a minister.
It has been indicated by party sources that a fresh face is being sought for the leadership of the state unit. Chavan’s efforts in managing the party’s operations in the Konkan region during his previous assignments have been widely appreciated. His contributions as the Public Works Minister in the earlier Mahayuti government have also been noted, though he was not included in the cabinet during the coalition's recent return to power. The role of the new state president has been described as critical, particularly in the context of the upcoming local body and municipal corporation elections, which are expected to be conducted early next year.
Details about the BJP’s organizational elections were shared earlier by Chandrashekhar Bawankule during his visit to Nagpur. It was stated that elections for district and tehsil unit presidents would be completed by the end of January. This process will then be followed by the election of a new state BJP president. The Sanghatan Parv initiative, which is aimed at restructuring the party’s grassroots organization, was officially launched in Nagpur on December 21. Chavan’s appointment as the in-charge of this initiative was formally announced on Saturday by Bawankule.
Changes in the Mumbai BJP leadership are also being considered, according to party insiders. Ashish Shelar, who currently holds the position, has recently been inducted into the Fadnavis-led government as the Minister for Information Technology and Cultural Affairs. A replacement for Shelar is being speculated as part of the party’s restructuring efforts. A major BJP state conclave has been scheduled for January 12 in Shirdi, where Union Home Minister Amit Shah is expected to be present. The conclave is anticipated to set the party’s agenda and strategy for the upcoming local elections, marking an important step in the organizational rebuilding process.
