According to the Central and Western Railways, from June to August, about 25 lakh passengers have returned to Mumbai in special trains.

As per reports, more than 16,00,000 passengers returned from the Central Railways. Central Railways released 15 special trains from CSMT, LTT, Thane, Kalyan to the north and south. The same number of trains are coming back to Mumbai. In the three months from June to August, a total of 16,50,000 people were ferried.

The trains from Gorakhpur to Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT), Darbhanga to LTT, Gorakhpur to LTT, Varanasi to CSMT, Bhubaneswar to CSMT, Hyderabad to CSMT, Bangalore to CSMT and other areas are arriving in Mumbai every day.

In the past, the number of trains departing from Mumbai and the surrounding areas of Central and Western Railways was higher. Since then, the Ministry of Railways had started operating special trains for ordinary passengers from June as the number of labour trains was steadily declining. At that time, the number of people going out of Mumbai was in the millions. However, since June, as the lockdown has begun to ease out, the workers who had gone out to rehabilitate their ailing finances have started coming back to the city.

On the other hand, the Railway department had earlier informed that it has decided to run 80 special trains (40 pairs) on various routes in the country, from September 12, 2020, and the reservations for the same will start from September 10, 2020.
