Post-Elphinstone stampede — which claimed 23 lives — both Western Railway (WR) and Central Railway (CR) have decided to focus on improving facilities given to commuters. Accordingly, CR officials are reviewing stations and are removing stalls and canteens from the existing narrow platforms.

Considering the increasing population, CR has decided to make platforms stall-free and for the same, CR will be reviewing 75 stations.
Until now, the CR has built 17 FOBs and additional 22 FOBs will be constructed soon. Along with this, escalators and elevators will be built as well.
We have placed new seats on CR and WR platforms which have been funded by the public representative,” S K Jain, PRO, CR.
