The Mumbai Metro 3 project is an ambitious infrastructure initiative. Nearly 97% of the work in this first phase has been completed. Metro 3 officials have indicated that the final stages of testing are underway in a post on the project's official social media handle on X.

The post further provided details that all the stations in Phase 1 were inspected by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC)'s Fire Brigade. Electrical systems and other critical infrastructure components are also in their final testing phase.

A Mumbai Metro 3 post on X said, "Overall 97% work of Phase 1 of Metro 3 has been completed. All stations under Phase 1 have been inspected by MCGM's fire brigade. Electrical and all other systems have been tested. In the final phase, MMRC will submit an application to invite the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) who will examine various safety aspects of the metro system!

Initially, work on the first phase of the Metro 3 project was scheduled to begin on July 24. However, the launch of this important transport link has been delayed due to pending safety inspections and certification approvals.

Contrary to reports that Metro 3 operations will begin soon, the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRCL) has not yet set a date for the first phase of the Aqua Line to begin operations.

According to a report by the Free Press Journal, MMRCL is awaiting necessary certifications before starting operations. The first phase of Metro 3 running between Aarey Colony and BKC will start once all the approvals are received. Eventually, Aqua Line will serve the stretch from Colaba to Seepz.

The exact date of the inauguration is yet to be decided.

A senior official of MMRCL said that the exact date of commencement of Metro 3 operations has not been decided yet. The inspection by the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) is pending and the launch date will be decided only after CMRS gives the green light. The official indicated that MMRCL will invite CMRS for inspection within a month.

Further information received from the official revealed that 99% civil work has been completed, construction of metro station is 97% complete and tunnel work has been completed. Overall system work is 77.6% complete, depot civil works are 99.8% complete and mainline track work is 87% complete.

Metro 3, spread over a 33.5-km underground corridor along the Colaba-Bandra-Seepz route, has 27 stations, of which 26 are underground. The project requires several approvals from Research Design and Standards Organization (RDSO), Independent Safety Assessor (ISA) and (CMRS). RDSO has completed their investigation. Also the investigation of ISA is going on.

MMRCL currently has a fleet of 19 rakes. Which is enough to run the first phase of the metro. Once operational, the Aqua Line is expected to provide 260 services per day. It will accommodate approximately 1.7 million passengers. MMRCL is also focusing on integrating multi-modal connectivity at stations, including other public transport, improved footpaths, seating arrangements and foot over bridges to enhance connectivity.
