The Maharashtra Rail Infrastructure Development Corporation has received only INR 650 crores from this year's budget, despite massive funding for key projects. Moreover, compared to last year, only an increase of INR 100 crore has been received this year. In addition, 7,107 crores have been received for various projects across the state.
The Mumbai Railway Development Corporation had sought huge funds from the Center to expedite important and old projects on the Mumbai Suburban Railway which have been underway for the last few years. These include important projects like Thane to Diva 5th-6th route, Airoli to Kalwa elevated route, Panvel to Karjat suburban route, Virar to Dahanu quadrangle, CSMT to Kurla 5th-6th route, Mumbai Central to Borivali 6th route.
Meanwhile, the Central Railways has received INR 50 crores for the construction of 115 escalators, of which 50 per cent are at Mumbai stations. On the other hand, Western Railway clarified that INR 35 crores have been received for the developmental work of seven flyovers whereas INR 20 crores have been received for the construction of pedestrian bridges.
Maharashtra has received INR 7,107 crores from the budget for the construction of new lanes, double lanes and other facilities in the state including Mumbai. Moreover, the civic body has claimed that an additional INR 507 crore has been received this year as compared to 2009-2014. A provision of INR 9,547 crores has been made in the budget for a new 368 km route from Indore to Manmad via Malegaon. Also, INR 527 crores have been provided for Ahmednagar to Beed to Parli Vaijnath and INR 347 crores for Wardha to Nanded via Malegaon.
